The Skywalk at Venice Biennale – A Living Bridge Between Art and Ecology

In the Eternal Embrace of Venice

Venice—an enchanting labyrinth of canals, palazzos, and timeless artistry—has long inspired dreamers. This city, steeped in cultural heritage, presents a living canvas where the art of existence is painted with passion, resilience, and quiet wonder.

It is here, in this unique setting, that THE SKYWALK emerges at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2025. Presented by Platform Earth, an environmental arts initiative founded by artist Petroc Sesti, the exhibition offers a visionary response to the ecological urgency facing Venice and the world.

Curated by Nadja Romain and hosted at La Fucina del Futuro in the historic Castello district, THE SKYWALK blends architecture, science, and art. The centerpiece—a six-meter model of the Venetian Lagoon created with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners—features floating wetlands and bird habitats that honor the salt marshes’ role as powerful carbon sinks and fragile ecosystems.

Visitors experience a multisensory journey: carbon-negative artworks by renowned artists, enveloping mist, and a scent installation that reimagines the natural environment through artistic sensibility. At the heart of this experience is Tree Beacon, a 29-foot sculpture by Sesti. Hand-crafted with low-carbon methods, it symbolizes our global responsibility to protect natural ecosystems and will travel to the COP climate conference in Brazil.

THE SKYWALK is a living bridge—physically and metaphorically—connecting Venice’s heritage with ecological renewal. Developed with scientists and architects, it invites reflection on how art and infrastructure can coexist with, and even restore, the environment.

In celebrating Venice’s cultural depth and environmental fragility, THE SKYWALK encourages us to walk forward—together—into a future shaped by beauty, wisdom, and care.
