In Memory of Charlie Kirk: Turning Point USA

By Ana Bikic

How I Met Charlie

I met Charlie Kirk when he was just 17. I was exhibiting my paintings in Coconut Grove after returning from Florence, where I had presented my philosophy of Eco-Symbolism. He saw my work, recognized Turning Point, and came to me.

A hand reached out, grabbed my card, and said: “You are the artist that did this painting. You are the author.”

We spoke for an hour,  about symbols, about protagonism, about dialogue, about knowledge and how important it is to share it. That conversation stayed with me forever.

Maybe it was only one meeting, but I always felt a connection. In some way, I believe I touched Charlie,  just as he touched me. Perhaps that dialogue helped propel him toward creating Turning Point USA.

The Invisible Movement

Sometimes I feel that Charlie Kirk carried Eco-Symbolism forward like an invisible movement. Like the rock thrown into water, creating waves that travel far beyond where it first fell, Charlie proposed my thoughts and ideas through time and space.

He shared them, consciously or not, around the world. That is the mystery and power of inspiration: once it leaves you, it travels on its own. Charlie was that force,  multiplying symbols, multiplying dialogue, multiplying courage.

                              A Tribute to Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk (October 14, 1993 – September 10, 2025).
Founder of Turning Point USA, remembered for inspiring millions
through his voice for freedom and truth. Charlie Kirk lives on in us.

Charlie Kirk was not just a protagonist,  he was so brave. He touched millions, and he touched me. I followed him through life, always proud of him, always worried for his safety, knowing the danger he faced.

They think they killed Charlie, but they awakened a lion. He is not gone. He lives on in millions of hearts. He lives in me. Every night, I hug Charlie in my prayers, next to my father and all the people who have passed, now standing on our shoulders.

We need Charlie’s bravery to wake up in every human being — not just in the USA, but internationally. We need to inspire like an electric storm the future generation. We must be bigger, better, stronger. We have no time to waste. Charlie did that for us. He gave us that fire.

The Painting:

Turning Point 2006

Turning Point 2006 Acrylic on canvas, is a painting, I created as part of my collection Dance of Life 2006 Rhythm. It shows a school of fish swimming into darkness, but two small fish break away toward the light. They are the protagonists, the ones who refuse to follow the crowd into the mouth of the whale.

Charlie loved this symbolism. It is about courage, about thinking with your own mind, about refusing dogma and manipulation. Later, he founded Turning Point USA, carrying the same meaning into his mission.

Eco-Symbolism: From Environmentalism to a Philosophy of Life

Eco-Symbolism began as an environmental movement, but it grew into something much larger. It stands for truth, critical thinking, and the power of symbols.

Symbols are everywhere: in art, music, poetry, letters, science. They influence us, inspire us, or drain us. They can be used to create or destroy. But without symbols, there is no creativity, no breakthroughs, no evolution.

Eco-Symbolism is rooted in knowledge, not just feelings. It is about setting aside ego and dogma to create solutions through dialogue. Alone, we are just a drop of water. Together, we are the ocean.

We need to empower others to create. We need to inspire them to be protagonists, to believe that they can do it. Because if you think in your mind that you cannot do something, then evolution stops.

The Conversation That Changed My View

Once, I explained Eco-Symbolism to a powerful client of mine. She resisted strongly, almost angrily: “I don’t like Eco-Symbolism.” She said life was about competition, about putting your foot on others to succeed.

I told her: Eco-Symbolism is not about overpowering, it is about growing together. It is evolution through dialogue, not ego. True creativity does not come from competition with others, but from the competition within yourself — the effort to excel, to create something meaningful, and to do it with others. It is not about being the star, but about being part of the constellation.

She kept insisting she didn’t like it. But then I reminded her of her own life’s work: extending lifesaving AIDS drugs not only to men, but also to women, children, and the elderly. She had taken that mission to heart, fought for it with passion, and achieved it,  not alone, but with others. That was Eco-Symbolism in action.

By the end of dinner, she was speechless. She realized there was something deeper, and that she was part of it. We are all part of it. You can be a star, but a star inside a galaxy, and every galaxy is part of a universe of millions more. You are one more, but you are also important.

It is like a symphony: not one instrument, not one violin, but many. Each note adds something unique, and for the symphony to be pure and beautiful, your note must be practiced and polished from the heart. That is true creativity. That is spirituality. That is true evolution.

About the Artist: Ana Bikic

Ana Bikic was born in 1965 in the mountains of Argentina. She grew up in a family of doctors and scientists. Her father, Dr. Felix Antonio Bikic, was a true healer,  a doctor for fifty years, an acupuncturist, a professor of anatomy, geography, philosophy, history, and hygienics, and later head of the psychiatric department at the university. He was more than a physician: he was a philosopher, altruistic and magnanimous, who shared his knowledge like a wave impossible to avoid.

Her grandmother, Teresa Someraux, was a fabulous artist, completely ahead of her time. Independent, refined, intelligent, and loving, she was also an enthusiastic botanist who inspired Ana’s lifelong passion for plants and art.

Ana’s paternal grandmother, by contrast, was deeply religious, and that dogma marked her childhood. It also shaped her view that religion, though often rooted in devotion, has been used historically to control people, creating limitations and distracting humanity from true evolution. Ana believes in God, in unity, but not in dogma.

Dyslexia made the sciences more difficult for Ana, but it also gave her a unique creative gift. She became the only artist in a family of scientists, tying her hunger for knowledge into her artistic and philosophical work.

She created the philosophy of Eco-Symbolism in 2005, writing its manifesto and developing her collection of symbolic marine life paintings. In 2006 she completed and exhibited the works Dialogue, Turning Point, Knowledge, The Beginning, Crossroads, Moonlight Feeders, and her Immigration collection (Landing on the Bay series, 2005–2006). In 2007, she presented Eco-Symbolism and this collection at an international exhibition in Florence, Italy, where it was received with great success.

Ana is also co-creator of the historic mural New World Mural 1513, installed in 1988 in the Grand Hall of Miami’s Freedom Tower. The 45-foot-long, 25-foot-high mural depicts the arrival of Ponce de León, the naming of Florida, and the first European landing in North America. It celebrates discovery, freedom of speech, immigration, and the shaping of Miami’s identity. Originally commissioned in the 1920s when the Tower was a newspaper headquarters, the mural was re-created in 1987 by a group of six artists: Wade Foy, John Conroy, William Mark Coulthard, Phyllis Shaw, Gerome Villa Bergsen, and Ana Bikic.

Ana also co-authors and owns Miami Art Reviews with her husband William Mark Coulthard, a sculptor, painter, and thinker. William is a wonderful artist in his own right, and together they share a life of creativity, music, history, art, and ideas. They almost fuse into one today, working and dreaming side by side.

Ana and William share not only their art but their life’s philosophy,  a project of Eco-Symbolism lived as a marriage. They raised a beautiful child, now an engineer, and continue to live and work in Miami, carrying forward their vision of art as knowledge, dialogue, and legacy.

 Dialogue as the Key

Eco-Symbolism and Charlie Kirk meet in this truth: dialogue is the key. Dialogue propels us through evolution. Dialogue expands knowledge, because each of us carries a piece of the puzzle. Alone we cannot see the whole, but together we can.

We must empower, not overpower. We must inspire others to create, to be protagonists. Life is too short to waste in fear or silence.

Charlie Kirk understood this. He reminded us to ask: What do you want to be remembered for? He multiplied into millions by showing us that bravery is possible.

Every artist, every thinker, every human being carries responsibility. Symbols are everywhere,  geometry, music, language, art. They shaped history. They shape us. And they must be used to inspire, not to destroy.

Charlie Kirk was like a stone cast into the water, creating ripples that travel beyond what we can see. His wave has not ended,  it multiplies.

Dialogue is our way forward. It is our only hope for the future generation.

So let us all be brave today. Let us embrace Charlie’s heart and spirit. Let us be warriors of truth, protagonists of life, and voices of inspiration through dialogue.
